Austin Mitchell, MP for Great Grimsby, has officially opened the new Product Development Centre and production facilities at Coldwater Seafood in Grimsby today (Tuesday 30th September). Coldwater has invested £1.5 million in its two Grimsby manufacturing operations – East and West sites. This investment has increased Coldwater’s ready meals capabilities through its new sauce and meals preparation areas and ‘en Croute’ production facilities. In addition, the new Product Development Centre is an important part of Coldwater’s investment and is essential for Coldwater to continue growing its seafood ready meals business. The investment helps to secure over 600 jobs with Coldwater and has created over 70 new jobs ranging from factory operatives to sauce chefs. Anita Barker, Coldwater’s Managing Director said, “At Coldwater, the atmosphere is really quite electric. We are clearly focused and know where we are going and we are very much looking forward to the opportunities ahead.” The official opening was attended by Coldwater’s customers, suppliers and key people from the seafood industry including Einar Kristinn Gudfinnsson, Iceland’s Minister for Fisheries & Agriculture, who said, “Grimsby, for Iceland, is extremely important and we have always had very strong bonds and links between Iceland and the Humberside area”.

This year's celebrity chef supporters include Phil Vickery, Nick Nairn, Brian Turner, Mitch Tonks, Tom Kitchin, Simon Rimmer and Rick Stein. They've been joined by nutritionist Juliette Kellow and Dr Christian Jessen in showing how easy it can be for everyone to eat their recommended ‘2 a week’.
