Coldwater Seafood buys over 10,000 tonnes of seafood from around the world every year. Therefore we have a responsibility for sourcing seafood only from the most sustainable fisheries – to help ensure that we all have ‘fish for the future’.
Our vision is to secure healthy marine and freshwater fish and shellfish to provide nutritious food for today’s consumers and future generations. We have an excellent reputation as an expert supplier of high quality and responsibly sourced seafood to the UK retailers – our customers’ reputations are protected by our values and policies.
We work closely with our suppliers to make sure that we know where and how our fish has been caught and processed. Wild caught fish can be traced back to either the catching vessel or a known group of vessels and their landing ports. We choose suppliers that can provide us with traceability to vessels that have legal access to a fishery and all of our aquaculture fish can be traced back to the farm site. Our quality auditors regularly visit our suppliers’ factories, fishing vessels and farms to ensure that our seafood is processed to the highest possible standard – and to make sure that it is safe.
Coldwater Seafood is an active supporter of Marine Stewardship Council’s principles and wild fisheries accreditation scheme. We are striving towards sourcing our wild caught fish from MSC accredited fisheries and we will not buy any fish species that are threatened with extinction and are legally protected.
But sustainability is not just about fish. We are equally committed to preventing food and packaging waste from going to landfill through waste reduction, reuse and recycling and we have individual efficiency programmes to reduce the energy used to make our products.
